YouTube has intensified efforts to combat ad blockers, which are tools used to prevent ads from appearing during videos on the platform. Abner Li from 9to5google states that YouTube started taking action against ad blockers in May by showing warnings to users using these tools, and now the company has implemented this policy globally.

YouTube initiated a worldwide campaign on October 31 to urge viewers using ad blockers to either enable ads on YouTube or consider YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience, as per YouTube communications manager Christopher Lawton. This was confirmed by a YouTube spokesperson speaking to 9to5google.
Using ad blockers on YouTube goes against the platform’s rules. YouTube is urging users who have ad blockers enabled to either disable them and watch ads or consider subscribing to YouTube Premium for an uninterrupted viewing experience. Advertisements play a crucial role in supporting creators worldwide and enabling millions of viewers to enjoy their preferred content on YouTube.
Users have frequently mentioned seeing warnings on YouTube stating that “adblockers violate the YouTube Terms of Service,” which prevents video playback if the ad blocker is not disabled.
YouTube has blocked popular ad-blocking extensions like AdBlock, Adblock Plus, and uBlock Origin. To address this issue, the recommended solution is to subscribe to YouTube Premium. If the individual subscription seems costly, there is an option for a family plan that accommodates up to six members. Below are the current subscription prices offered by the platform.
- YouTube Premium Family costs R$ 41.90 per month, with each member paying R$ 6.98 if there are six members.
- YouTube Premium Individual costs R$ 24.90 per month.
